STABLE GRACE

STABLE GRACE

Fear fills the corners of the room
She doesn’t know when blows will fall
Clutching a very hungry gut
Curled up in a ball
She longs for Stable Grace.
He pulls the coat around him
Turns his back against the wind
The snow blows past his worn shoes
as he drolls upon his chin.
He may not really know it now
But what his heart is crying for
Is Stable Grace.
The needle pierces a scarred arm
The ecstasy begins
The clothes are draped upon a chair
The bodies sprawled, the bodies bare
Stable Grace is needed here.
From senate hall to town hall meets
The anger flows, the rhetoric is loud
How dare there be a change for me!
So what if others have a need!
And Stable Grace forgotten now
Is swallowed up by greed.
The church is filled with music sweet
One would not guess the hearts that gather there
Would harbor dogma, pride and bigoted revenge
Dramatic “Stable Grace” is on the stage.
The props, The lights, The children everywhere…and yet
Stable Grace is crying to be known, in THIS place!
I look upon the lovely Christmas Creche
And ponder all that heaven brought to earth
My heart feels dirty, life unsure
My world teeters between despair and joy
I long, I need, I cry for Stable Grace
While on my knees it comes to dwell
Within my being
Cold and dark with sin
My breath gives way
To Holy Spirit joy
And distant music echoes
To the future years.
Heaven’s gift brought to that stable small,
Stable Grace and Heaven’s Joy
To All!
